Experimenting with Kwandile and Elijah.

We really enjoyed the experiments this morning.

Elijah was first, he showed us why sherbet fizzes on your tongue. He first gave everyone a taste of the individual ingredients. The citric acid was very sour!

Bicarb and Citric acid, when
combined with water create a
gas that give off bubbles.

Everyone loved seeing the fizz.
At the end, everyone got a sucker, which they could dip into some sherbet so that they could experience the fizz for themselves!

Kwandile demonstrated how hot air rises and cold air sinks, with a very simple but effective experiment.

Place a balloon over an empty bottle.

Insert one bottle into a bowl
of boiling water and another into
a bowl of cold water.

The hot air rises, and
makes the balloon inflate.

Kwandile swapped the bottles around a few times, it was very easy to see how the inflated balloon deflated when placed in the cold water, and how the the deflated balloon inflated after being placed in the hot water.

Well done boys..very good experiments.
