Fun in the Dark

The little girl said that Dark is Necessary, the old lady said it was kind, the little boy said that it was exciting and grade twos say it was amazing, fun, cool noisy and many more!

To continue with our theme on the Owl who was afraid of the Dark, we organised a 'Fun in the Dark' evening at school on Thursday the 15 November.

Our Grade two's were so excited and could not wait to come to school when it was dark! They arrived armed with torches and a picnic supper, raring to go!

To start, they learnt about Guy Fawkes from Michael and then they helped him build a guy. Everyone had great fun stuffing the guy with newspapers, whilst chanting "remember, remember the 5th of November!

The guy is built - ready for the stake!

Once the guy had been built Gill and I gave each child a packet that contained everything that they needed for a treasure hunt, as well as glowsticks.

The children looked at the secret number on the back of their masks and used that to find their partner for the activity. They set off and by the time they returned it was dark - at last they could use their torches!
Aphiwe looks for the next set of instructions

Writing their name with chalk was one of the instructions.
Excitement was building as the children sat and ate their supper and waited for the guy to be lit!

A granny and great granny pay us a visit

This week plop visits an old lady to find out about the dark. She tells him that dark is kind because it can hide wrinkles and shabby furniture. It also allows her time to think about the past.

Our grade two classes have been interviewing their grannies and presenting their findings to us in an oral. It has been so interesting!

We invited Granny Wendy and her mother, Great-granny Avril to come and tell us about some of the things they like to do. Both grannies like to knit. Granny Avril makes teddies for Aids orphans in Underburg and Granny Wendy likes to crochet blankets for the babies.

Both grannies showed us how to make pom-poms. What fun we had, when they were finished they looked just like a small fluffy plop!

Art Evening

The star of the show our talented
Mrs Maree !
The opening of the Art exhibition was held on Wednesday 31 October at 6pm. It was a fantastic evening, with live music, poetry readings and artists at work. The children can be so proud of their efforts. Thank you to the parents who made a special effort to brave the weather and were there to share the wonderful evening.

The art will be on display for the rest of the week, so parents please pop in when you can.

Happy Halloween from Grade 2

The art department thought that it would be a great idea to use the Halloween theme for their art display seeing that the opening was on the 31st! Many children came dressed accordingly. It was great fun!
