South Africans are outdoor people, with braaing being one of the favourite pastimes with everyone. It was for this reason that we took the grade twos to Paradise Valley where there are lots of braai sites and open space to have some fun.

Everyone listening carefully! |
The children got to make their own fires, this was so much fun and for some it was the first time that they had done something like that. It did not take long for the fires to get going. What excitement!

Kwandile brought onions to clean the grids..he turned out to be a seasoned braaimaster! |
|
We did it! |
|
We have fire! |
Apart from the viennas that each child cooked on the fire, they also made some toast on which they added marmite..which is only found in South Africa. We also gave them other exclusively South African food, namely NikNaks and Creme Soda and chutney.
|
Nothing tastes better than food you have cooked yourself! |
|
Not everyone liked the marmite, but Dighace did! |
|
Cheers! |
After our braai, Gill and I took our classes for a walk to the waterfall.
And before we knew it, it was time to return to school. Everyone agreed that it was "so much fun"
Both Gill and I were delighted when Ziyaads mum sent us a picture of him braaing over the weekend. We hope that many more children(or is it the parents!!) will take up the challenge and braai for their families in the near future!
