Tea Time is Fun Time!

No visit to England is can be complete without the traditional cup of tea! So to end off our visit here..we decided to invite our mums to school to share in this age old tradition.

It all started with a personal invitation..each child made a beautiful invitation to give to their mums.

Gill and I put the typical English characters, like bus drivers, cab drivers, kings, queens, fish mongers, butchers, bakers, Wimbledon tennis stars, tour operators, famous singers, fashion designers, shop keepers and soccer players in a hat and each child got to draw one out. We asked our parents to help each child prepare a few sentences about their character to share with the class and dress them accordingly. Well.....we were blown away by the fantastic characters that arrived at school today!
All the Royalty!

Bus drivers, train drivers and taxi drivers!

Butchers, fishmongers, chefs and bakers.

Anyone for tennis or soccer?

England's long arm of the law!

Famous musicians and a fashion designer!

There was much excitement as we prepared for our mums. We set the tables and made some eats. My class made delicious cream scones and Gills cucumber sandwiches.

Our beautiful tea garden.
The children could not wait for their mums to arrive, excitement levels were at an all time high! At last they arrived and were shown to their seats. After choosing a few children to share information about their characters it was time for tea.

Luckily we asked our mums to wear hats because it turned out to be a stunning warm autumn day! Before long it was time for the mums to find out why we had asked them to wear flat shoes....

Jean Wiggle made special trip to teach everyone a fun dance that originated in England and was later adopted for use in American Barn dances. It was wonderful for both Gill and I to see how much fun the children and their mums had together.

It was such a lovely time spent together. A huge thank you to all you amazing parents for your support and for coming today...I know it is something your children will remember for a long time to come. And last but not least Gill...no words can say how much I just love teaching with you!
