The aardvark who wasnt sure.

I cant believe how much of the term has already  gone and I have not updated you all on what we have been up to. So I am going to make up for lost time.

By now you are all aware that we are reading the book, The Aardark who wasn't sure, by Gill Tomlinson. It is such a lovely story that we are really enjoying. We read a chapter a week and then base our work for that week around what we have read.

Before we read the book, we learnt about aardvarks. We are aiming to increase our class's vocabulary and sentence writing this term.  We learnt words like solitary and nomadic as well as some lovely descriptive words - like coarse hair, sharp claws etc.

During that week we made tabbed booklets where we wrote up information on aardvarks. They are on display at the back of the classroom for to read.

On the Friday we grouped our classes to make an aardvark picture for display on the back wall. Some children made termites, others the termite mound and two drew the aardvark. At the end we worked together to make the picture, we were very pleased with the end result. This was a very worthwhile group activity where the children realised how important it was to work together towards a common goal.

creating the termite mound, using egg boxes

finger print termites

drawing the aardvark

putting it all together.

The wonderful end result.
