Grade Two go....."Down Under"

What a short, busy week have had in the only place that is a continent and a country - Australia. On Monday, Miss Reguad told us some interesting facts about Australia and even arranged for her friend to Skype call us. It was so nice to meet her and hear her accent. We also got to taste 'fairy bread' a popular treat for Australian children.

We learnt about the unique animals found in Australia, particularly the dangerous ones! Today, we dressed up in our explorer gear,  and went in search of these animals. As each animal was found, the children had to plot its location on a map, a skill that can be a bit challenging, so I was so pleased at how well they worked.

After our expedition it was time to get down to some more serious work. We paired the children in our classes and each pair was allocated a dangerous animal to learn about. They were given the information which they had to sort under sub headings like, diet, appearance, young, habitat and interesting facts. These facts were displayed in poster form. On Monday, because we ran out of time today, each child has to learn three facts about their animal which they will tell to the class.
