Afrikaans is Fun on Friday!
This past Friday we decided to have an Afrikaans Day. We started our morning in the small hall.
The children first learnt the song 'Jan Pierewiet' along with the actions. The part ..'goeie more my vrou, hiers `n soentjie vir jou' caused much giggling amongst everyone as you can well imagine. Especially when the boys sang that part to the girls!
We then had lots of fun acting out verbs like..skop, klim, bou, hardloop etc. We began as a group and then added hy, sy and ons for each activity. The relevant children responded to the instruction. We then arranged the children into groups and gave them cards with these same words on that they had to act out.. The boys and girls really enjoyed themselves.
The last activity we did in the hall was learn the Afrikaans version of 'heads, shoulders, knees and toes" before heading back to class.
After break, the children had to make a group poster that involved labelling the parts of the body.
We finished off our day with an individual cut, stick and match worksheet based on all that we had learnt that morning. Both Megan and I were delighted at how much the children had remembered.
