We started the week with Jasmita and Samairas orals. They told us some interesting facts on Warthogs.
Samaira had such a good idea.. she used puppets as well as her chart to tell us about Warthogs. |
As arbour week coincided with our week learning about warthogs, Gill and I decided to take our classes to the Botanical Gardens for some learning beyond the classroom.
Before we left we read them this delightful story.
We divided them into groups and then in the amphitheatre in Bot Gardens they performed the story! It was delightful to see how well they coped and they loved listening to each other..although they soon realised that they need to use a loud voice when on stage.
During the week we had showed our classes a picture of the largest tree in the world, so they were very aware of the different trees on our walk up to the amphitheatre. So we decided to see how big the Ficus, that was right where we were performing, was...we all joined hands and only just made it around the tree!
After our show, we walked down to the lake to have our lunch. I must say the gardens are really looking wonderful, we stopped on the way to admire all the beautiful spring flowers.
After eating lunch we got them back into their groups. They had to collect as much litter, stones, leaves, sticks and feather they could in 5 minutes. The idea was to come back and count each item, add the group total together and graph the results. It was great fun and both Gill and I had underestimated how many things they would collect....the sticks were surprisingly, the most by far and the feather the least.
The time went by so quickly, and before we knew it the bus was there to fetch us..so we quickly fed the ducks before heading back to school.
