Burman Bush trail.

There was much excitement today as the grade two's arrived all ready for our hike in Burman bush. Bags were packed with cameras, binoculars and magnifying glasses ready to go in search of mini-beasts!

As we have been learning the 'ea' sound this week Gill and I (the teachers) thought the hike would be a wonderful way of combining our theme with nature. So....it was off to Burman bush we went.

We started the morning by making ea with our bodies. My class made the E and Gills the A. It was very interesting watching how the children organised themselves I must say!

Before we set off on our tour. We chose six leaders to who would lead their own handpicked teams. They were given brightly coloured plastic bangles with the word peace on it. So they knew...no fighting or arguing!
The red team.
Gill showed them a big book with all sorts of mini-beasts to give them an idea of what they could look for.

Then we set off, always on the look out for what might be under leaves or in the trees.

It was such a hot day that we were all happy to have a tea(water) break along the way!

It was such fun when the children were able to use their binoculars to look over the valley and see the Umgeni River and Windsor golf course!

Our guide leading the way!
Once we reached the top of reserve we stopped to eat our snacks. We were so impressed with the healthy treats that the children were given...thank you parents.

After our short break we walked back down the entrance.
These three were the daddy, mommy and baby elephants holding  on,
trunk to tail!
Back at home base, the groups were given a rhyme to learn which they had come and scream out to us...
We are the team that cant be beat....that's because we never, ever cheat!

Afterwards, whilst we waited for Themba to fetch us, each group settled to read books on mini beasts which Mrs Regaud had kindly lent us from the library.

What a lovely morning even though we had to beat the heat!

Tomorrow they will have to wait for their treats...romany creams and chocolate dreams!
