Tiddalik the frog

Last week to start off our Edens "Operation Hydrate' we read the aboriginal folk tale - Tiddalik the greedy frog. It was told in an attempt to explain drought. The children really enjoyed the story. It was a wonderful opportunity to introduce our classes to drought and some wonderful descriptive words, like scorched, gigantic, huge, slurp and many more.

On Friday we made our own frogs. Each child had to make up its name, describe how big it was and what happens when it moved etc. We encouraged our classes to use 'wow' words displayed around the classroom from the other stories we had already read. I was so pleased with the results.

This week we are going to explore the very relevant drought problem we are having at the moment...all children are encouraged to bring bottled water to school for us to send to drought stricken areas of our province. Instead of a normal valentines day, we will be having a 'blue' valentine. We are looking forward to your support.
