In this week's chapter Plop meets a boy scout and his friends who tell him that dark is fun because they play games, sing songs and cook food over the camp-fire.
Roic Wiggill, in grade 5, is a sea scout who has recently been awarded his Leaping Wolf badge. He came to tell us all about scouts and what it involves. It sounds like great fun. He did tell everyone that before they become a scout they first have to be a cub scout. He has learnt how to light fires, pitch tents, cook food, help animals and so many other things. Just like the scouts in the story, he and his pack like to sing songs around the camp fire. He spoke so well, we are proud of you Roic - thank you.
Inspired by Roic and the badges he has earned Megan and I have set our classes a challenge for the week. In order to earn a badge at the end of it each child has to have completed a chore each night, done three good deeds, be able to light a candle, tie a shoelace, stand on one leg with arms stretched like a tree for 30 seconds and one other surprise activity. We look forward to awarding these badges at our next assembly.
Wow, Mel - thanks for this. I have only just seen it. I just love the idea of extending the 'badges' to your class to do good deeds and chores to earn their badges - fantastic idea!
