We started the morning by attempting to learn the Can Can! It was so funny to watch the children as they tried their best to get the kicks right.
We were lucky to be able to offer the children some real French cheese on a baguette. Daniel from Megan's class gave us some cheddar. It had a very distinct flavour and was met with a variety of reactions! Some loved it...others not so much!
After learning a number of interesting facts about France, we set our classes the task of drawing the Eiffel Tower. It was not as easy at it looked, but I must say they didn't come out too badly.
Yesterday Daniels mom came to chat to our classes about what it was like to live in France. She told us about going to school-she said that school starts at 8.30 and finishes at 4pm. Children dont go to school on Wednesdays because they go to club sport because no sport is offered at school. Lunch break is an hour and a half long, children have the option of going home with their parents or having lunch at school. Everyone was shocked when she said that bot rabbit and horse meat was on sale in the shops! we also got an opportunity to learn some French words - she taught us to count and to say 'my name is..' The children were very interested and had lots of questions to ask her.
Today we arranged our own Tour de France. There was so much excitement as those who had bikes were able to bring them to school! We marked out a track on the field, put the children into teams and even had a yellow T shirt for the winner of each 'stage'. It was great fun.
