My Amazing dad

We have been reading this delightful book this past week. I am delighted at how all your children are improving with their reading. Some are really trying hard to look up and make eye contact while they do, which I am very happy about.

We wrote about or dads this week. They wrote under these headings - What does he do?, I like it when..., Why is our dad amazing?, His favourite... and lastly, I wish we could.... everyone wrote some lovely things about their dads. Without exception, every child said in one way or another that they wished they could spend more time with their fathers - something to think about dads!

All the information is displayed on these cubes.

Pupils of the day - Nhlamulo, Connor, Dhurini and Kisha

Nhlamu and I have one thing in common...we both love popcorn! His favourite is the butter flavour and we were all lucky to get a small packet each. He brought his fancy watch that his sister bought for him when she was in Disneyland with her school. Nhlamu was delighted when he got soccer cards for Christmas. He still needs to collect another four sets though! Thank you for your interesting oral.

I laughed when Conner brought his DSTV remote as part of his oral...he says he REALLY likes watching TV, especially the Disney Channel. He  has a Darth Vader teddy bear that his grandfather gave him when he was in hospital. He brought some flapjacks for us to taste because they are his favourite food. Well done Connor.

Dhurini is one of our eco warriors as she is very good at recycling - she showed us a pencil case and a phone stand that she made out of recycled goods. She also likes drawing in her spare time too. The ECR top 40 sound better on the  radio/speaker she got as pesent, it even comes with headphones. Dhurini showed us a family photo taken when she and her family all went on a safari in Mauritius. They had had lots of fun. We enjoyed your presentation, well done!

Kisha just loved telling us all about the things she brought to school today. She demonstrated her remote control car that can do tricks and she made some loom bands. She really enjoyed showing us the slideshows she had made of her family pictures on her tablet. Wisely she can only play with it over the weekends and sometimes during the week, but only if her homework is done! Chocolate Good Morning biscuits are one of her favourite things, she eats them in the morning because they are 'healthy.' A good effort Kisha, thank you.

Stars of the week

Somehow I have forgotten to post pictures of our last few certificate winners, so here they are. Well done to you all!

Shkuselwe and Ariya, our first pupils of the day

Skhuselwe brought us some photos of himself as a baby, he looked very cute. We all laughed when he told us that his favourite food was a doughnut, but he only gets them when his dad buys them because his mom always says no! He showed us a picture of his grandpa who recently died, which was very sad. Thank you for telling us a bit abut yourself Shuselwe.

Ariya had loads to tell us. She brought her doctors coat and stethoscope, she got it for her 5th birthday. She was so happy because it was based on the Doc Macstuffins TV programme which she loves to watch.  I didn't realise that you can get blue tooth fidget spinners  until today, Ariyas lights up too!   A girl can never go out without her make-up on says Ariya, that's why she loves the make-up set she got from her granny! Everyone was so happy when they got a taste of Ariyas favourite sweet...marshmallows! Well done Ariya, we enjoyed your oral.

We love our friends.

On Friday we ended our love week by writing about how much we love our friends. We took the letters of L..O..V..E  and brainstormed words that we could use. We made the sign for 'I love you' and added a photo. I was so pleased with the end result.

Guess how much I love you

Seeing that it is Valentines week, we thought that the book , Guess how much we love you would be perfect to read this week.

Today we made valentines day cards for our parents using some of the ideas from the book. I hope you like them. I will post more about what we do later in the week.

We learnt how to sign I love you this week as well, here it is for you to paractise.

I am so pleased at how enthusiastic our Grade 2's are to learn. We can make a few sentences already. Here is what we did today.

THRASS

We have begun to learn the graphemes and phonemes on the vowel chart now and I would encourage you to practice the same ones at home too. We write the graphemes and practice their sounds every day.

Another Mother

We spent two weeks doing a number of activities based on the book Another Mother by Jill Eggleton. It is a delightful story all about an emu chick who discovered the hard way that her mother is the best with her wibbly wobbly neck and snuggy wuggly feathers.

We wrote our own version of the story...

We made posters in groups, where we compared baby humans with baby birds. The children had to sort out the information and match the pictures. It was their first experience of group work and I was so impressed.

Last Friday we wrote some reasons why we wouldn't want another mother. They are up in the classroom if you would like to pop in and read them. Some of the reasons are so sweet!
