Maths on the beach.

We spent a wonderful morning on the beach, even though it was very hot! The purpose of the outing was to introduce multiplication. We began by grouping the children themselves. They were then paired off and had to make groups on the sand. We introduced the multiplication sign and got each child to work out sums of their own. We were pleased at how well they grasped the new concept.

We then had a capacity rely. Each group had to firstly fill a 100ml yogurt container, they used this to fill a 500ml water bottle. Then they used the water bottle to fill a 2l milk bottle. Finally they had to fill a 5l container using the 2l water bottle. They had so much fun that they wanted to do it all over again.

By the time we left the beach we were so hot so we all had a quick dip in the school

, pool to cool off.

Ons praat Afrikaans

To end off our theme on books, we are reading an Afrikaans book called Ek is Neels for the whole week. Our classes are really enjoying it.

Some of the new words are about clothing - so we started the week by making paper dolls. Each child the had to make a 'hemp, kortbroek, romp or rok' for their doll. What an amazing time they all had - they just loved doing this - even the boys!

We have learnt all the vocab and I am blown away by how well they are making up their own sentences with these new words. See if you can reads them in the pictures below.
